About the artist

Samuel Monnier was born in Switzerland. He took an interest in mathematics, physics and computers at an early age. Around 1995, he discovered fractal and algorithmic art and started writing basic programs to draw fractals. Later he switched to Ultra Fractal for the implementation of his algorithms. In the year 2000, he began creating works on the principle of "pattern piling" that defines his style.

He has always enjoyed the paintings of Paul Klee and Gustav Klimt and their influence can be seen throughout his compositions. Ethnic art is also a source of inspiration for the patterns incorporated into his digital creations. Perfecting the algorithms represents an important part of his artistic expression.

He holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics and research in this field is his main activity.
