Fractal monochrome painting

Monochrome painting is maybe the most radical expression of a minimalist trend that pervades a good proportion of XXth century visual artworks.

Saying that I am not fond of minimalism is an understatement, my aim is to create images visually as rich and complex as possible. Yet the idea of multiscale art allows to revisit the idea of monochrome painting in an interesting way. Indeed, a work can be minimalist at a given scale, and remarkably complex at another. Non-fractal images can trivially display this characteristic: at high enough magnification, they look like monochrome images. 20091021-1, displayed below, shows the opposite structure. It looks like a dull yellow monochromatic painting at large scales, but actually displays a very intricate pattern at small scales.
