Density

Here are some nice algorithmic works by Dave Bollinger involving shape packing. Their most interesting feature imho is the subtle mix of order and randomness in the placement of the shapes. Packing algorithms are rather difficult to implement efficiently in a scalable, "pixel by pixel" way, as is required by pattern piling (see the two blog posts here and here). That's why I don't have any image based on one of them for now, and why I especially enjoy watching these works.
